Lake Maligne
An hour out of Jasper is Lake Maligne. Everyone heads there for the view of Spirit Island. But it's 20 kms down the lake and you have to take a speeding tourboat!
Much better to rent a canoe and paddle your way to an adventure! There is nothing like being dwarfed by these immense mountains...
We discovered these enormous outcrops, where it was easy to beach the canoe, and ideal to climb. The trees were covered in glorious lemon yellow lichen air plants.
I like the juxtaposition of fragility (the precarious dead tree) and solidity (the ancient mountian range).
