Mount Robson and Lake Kinney

Mt Robson is the tallest mountain in the Canadian Rockies on the border of Alberta and BC.
It's top is almost always shrouded in cloud.
Painting by the visitor centre early in the evening I was struck by the many rivelets of colour flowing down the mountain side. Even the tiny whisp of frozen stream formed it's own patterns while the icy tourquoise glacier on the right appeared as an ominous threat...

This unusual view was sketched at the top of the 5 km footpath (which we madly cycled up!) near the lake.
I wanted to capture a tall thin slither of the mountain.. remember you rarely see the top!

Lake kinney is worth the hike (or bike) trip. It's like a secret hidden in the bowl of the mountains.
This painting was done with watercolour and watercolour crayons in between rain showers while a group of German tourists gave a running commentary to each!
