What does Barry think of his portrait? I asked him... click here
The Station is our link with the rest of the world. Twice an hour we hear the level crossing going down, and the train hoot; and it sounds like the rhythm of the village.
Barry Haines has been Thames Trains ticket man since 1997. For 20 years, before coming to Cookham, Barry sold insurance on the estates of Slough. Even though he lives in Cippenham, his passion is Blackpool FC and has been since the age of 7 when he saw Stanley Matthews win the FA cup!
I like the way Barry has made the waiting room a pleasure to sit in (and to work in of course during Cookham summer FM), and his smile makes buying a train ticket enjoyable.
He's a busy chap. At least a thousand people a day come and go from Cookham station.
