Cookham or Hurley? No competition is it? Back in 1991 these two parishes were needing a clerk and David applied for both.
Cookham won him and after 30 years at British Airways scheduling long haul flights around the world David found himself in the world of local politics where diplomacy is the key, issues are keenly fought, tempers get frayed and in the end we all have to live together and try and get along!
The Parish's annual budget of £90,000 covers recreation (the Alfred major playing fields), allotments, cemetery, footpaths, street lighting, war memorials, and the big one - planning and consultation.
How do we retain the lovely feel of Cookham while of course keeping businesses alive and moving with the times? That's the Parish Council's role.
The great diversity of talent and skills here was reflected last year when Cookham was voted most vibrant village in a national competition. "Much better than being voted sleepy village!"
Unknown to most people David's a theatre and ballet fan and once appeared on stage in the Mikado with Alan Titchmarsh!
