Golden Ball Summer

The Golden Ball at West Wycombe in the height of summer. The Golden Ball is one of the great landmarks of the Chilterns and underneath it are the famous hellfire caves where all sorts of debauchery happened in the olden days... It was a sweltering day in mid July when I painted this clinging to a bit of shade in the hedgerow as the paint fried almost as soon as I'd put it on....
My dad and I found this secret spot up a dead end lane when we went searching for the perfect view of the Golden Ball church.
It has everything we love about the Home Counties and the Chilterns. A high thin clouded day, the blistering heat on the wheat field, the Chiltern railway line up to Princes Risborough and the wonderful stack of summer flowers in the foreground.
