Venice is always a thrill to visit and to paint. This is the first in a series of views of the great city I painted in 2011.
This view is from near the Academia bridge opposite the Guggenheim museum looking towards the church of Salute. (I love the Salute church with it's firemens hoses carved in stone!)
I was thrilled to see the water such a dramatic colour and enjoyed the juxtaposition of the barber shop poles. This is Venice at it's most spectacular and you can see why artists have been attracted here since the dawn of time!
