During the summer of 1990 we filmed in what was then Leningrad for Wacaday. Among our stories was the re-creation of the storming of the Winter Palace by the bolshevik revolutionaries in 1917. I played the part of the revolutionaries and the cossacks and anyone else I could dress up as and it was a wonderful entertaining occasion.
Afterwards as the crew packed up I sat and painted this view of the palace (now home to the Hermitage art gallery) and my dear Russian Guide - Anton - signed it in Russian script.
